In class we recently read The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell in which we talked about its tone and mood. The tone of this book is a little gloomy and the subject focuses around hunting. But it is the type of hunting that makes this story's tone so dark. In the book this man hunts humans which is dark in itself so the tone automatically would be grim, scary, sad...etc. The tone of this book is the story in a way, without it the book would be boring. For example one part of the book said, " It was so dark...that i could sleep without closing my eyes; the night would be my eyelids-". The author could have said it was dark but the way he said it was descriptive and made the tone eerie. The book used tone in a very depressing way by giving places weird names. "We call it Death Swamp." is an example if that. The reason why that name sets the tone is because the word death and swamp in one sentence can make one feel rather depressed. The tone and mood in the story are medieval.
